The New York Post’s Page Six is reporting that Alicia Keys gave folks the silent treatment at a recent Seventeen magazine photo shoot in Paris – but it was only to protect her vocal chords for a concert later that night.

“She did not speak the entire time,” the column quotes of a source. “She whispered a bit, but while the music was blasting, she’d just move her lips along with the words.”

A rep for Keys said, “We had her on strict vocal rest for her performances, which was the right thing to do.”

In her “Seventeen” interview, Keys says she’s having fun exploring all of the nooks and crannies of her personality.

“I think at one time I was so bent on being just one way that I didn’t allow myself to explore the many ways I can be or express myself,” Keys, 28, tells the magazine’s June issue. “I’ve learned to embrace the many sides of myself. And there are so many sides to who I am.”
