iconnews_blender.jpgAlicia Keys isn’t going to stop speaking out. Instead, look for more positive pronouncements from the Grammy-winning singer-songwriter in the future.

She won’t be calling gangsta rap a government ploy to convince black people to kill each other, as she was quoted as saying in May’s Blender magazine.

“I don’t think [speaking out is] extremely encouraged,” Keys said. “I saw firsthand that even a positive person as I am, so many times you have a conversation or explain a thought and it totally gets misinterpreted, then sensationalized and totally inaccurate. I think that discourages people from being more verbal about what’s going on when it totally gets turned around incorrectly or the whole thought isn’t portrayed properly.”

Keys, whose latest album, “Who I Am,” has sold more than three million copies, would rather keep the focus in her altruistic pursuits, such as the Keep A Child Alive charity that sends food and medicine to AIDS and HIV patients in Africa. A film chronicling Keys’ work with the group can be seen at www.aliciainafrica.com.

“I really want to keep it positive,” Keys said. “I do so many positive things, that’s how I live my life … I’d much rather talk about my documentary that I did, ‘Alicia in Africa.’ … If anyone asks me about those comments and how I feel about them, I’d much rather say ‘Look at all the good work I do.’ “
